Heavy hands were the flavour of the month, writes Quintin van Jaarsveld as he selects July’s top five UFC knockouts.

Pure boxing proved a winning formula and a sure-fire way for fighters to land a place on my best knockouts of the month list in July.

From throwing caution to the wind to concussive power, scary speed and crisp technique, these were the month’s five finest finishes:

5: Blistering Barrage

Hyder Amil fought like a man possessed at UFC Vegas 94, pummelling Jeong Yeong Lee with a wickedly wonderful whirlwind of strikes for a thrilling first-round win.

4: Too Fast Too Furious

Montel Jackson lived up to his “Quick” nickname as he ran through Da’Mon Blackshear to record the second-fastest knockout in bantamweight history at UFC Denver. The 32-year-old connected with a crushing left straight down the pipe to pick up the win in just 18 seconds.

3: Gone In 60 Seconds

Tom Aspinall needed just 60 seconds to avenge his only UFC loss and retain the interim heavyweight title in the co-main event of UFC 304. The British behemoth showed his freakish speed as he blitzed Curtis Blaydes to send his home fans into a frenzy.

2: Comeback Kid

Cody Durden was in complete control of his clash with Bruno Silva at UFC Vegas 94 before the Brazilian turned the tables with a huge uppercut that sent his opponent’s mouthpiece flying and finished him off on the ground.

1: Big Up-set

Charles Johnson came in on short notice and snapped Joshua Van’s eight-fight win streak with a beautifully brutal uppercut in the third round of their prelim bout at UFC Denver.
