Wednesday Champions League Double – Round of 16

We are into the semi-finals of the Champions League and it’s four exciting teams although some would say unlikely. We preview each semi-final as the UCL nears the end.

There are two intriguing fixtures on Wednesday evening in the Champions League. We’ve created a neat double for Porto v Juventus and Sevilla v Borussia Dortmund.

FC Porto v Juventus

Porto head into this Champions League clash with Juventus on a four-match run of draws. That said, the Portuguese side have lost just one of their last 25 matches at home this season.

After a very stuttered start to the season, Juventus’ form has steadily improved under Andrea Pirlo, however, they face Porto off the back of a 1-0 loss to Napoli. The Old Lady beat Porto at this stage in the 2016/17 Champions League, winning 3-0. I don’t expect a high scoring match here, either Juventus might squeeze a win or a draw looks likely.

Sevilla v Borussia Dortmund

Sevilla have been red hot form in recently, they’ve won their last nine matches, and will be confident of extending that run on Wednesday night. The Spanish side haven’t failed to win a home game in 2021 and won’t worry too much about a faltering Borussia Dortmund.

The German side have been underwhelming lately, winning just two of their last seven, one of which came against lower league opposition Paderborn in the DFB-Pokal. Edin Terzic has overseen three successive away league losses which is not a good thing against a Sevilla side who are almost unstoppable at home.

Given Sevilla’s excellent performances, the home side a favoured to win the first leg, but given Borussia Dortmund’s penchant for goals, don’t be surprised if they score here.
