We’ve teamed up with , who is well-known in South Africa’s punting streets and he will give us his best for the week. Europe’s elite club competition is back and it usually promises two things: goals and favourites to win. Let’s have a look at this week’s fixtures.
Bayern v Salzburg: Bayern to score FH
Bayern have had a sketchy run of late but I expect them to bounce back against Salzburg. They are still the same side that won all their group stage matches, including two 3-0 over FC Barcelona. One thing about Bayern games, they almost always have first-half goals.
Liverpool v Inter: Liverpool win/draw under 4.5 goals
Liverpool enter the second leg after collecting a 2-0 in Italy. They’ll try to focus on their defence a bit more than usual here and will be keen to avoid defeat at Anfield.
Real Madrid v PSG: Under 4.5 goals
I’m not huge on unders, but I think this game will be a tight affair. PSG won the first leg 1-0 when everybody expected lots of goals and the second leg will be similar with Real having to press a bit more.
Porto v Lyon: Porto win/draw
Porto are unbeaten in 18 games in all competitions, while Lyon having a hot-and-cold season.
Real Betis v Frankfurt: over 2.5 goals
Betis are promising one thing this season – goals! They’ve had over 2.5 goals in 6/8 and BTTS in 7/8. Frankfurt had over 2.5 goals in 3/6 group stage games.
Sevilla v West Ham: Sevilla win/draw
Sevilla are somewhat Europa League experts and are playing one of their best campaigns in recent years – just don’t expect too many goals. West Ham have slowed down from their early season form, having won just 4/10 games
Rangers v Red Star Belgrade: Over 1.5 goals
Rangers knocked out Dortmund in the previous round, with the two games having 10 goals over the tie, while Red Star also had 6/8 games with over 2.5 goals.
Barcelona v Galatasaray: Barca over 1.5 goals
Barcelona have turned a corner since Xavi Hernandez took over, scoring 22 goals in their last 8 games, including a 4-2 win at Napoli. Galatasaray, meanwhile, have struggled a lot this campaign, sitting only in 12th place in the league.
Atalanta v Leverkusen: Leverkusen to score
Leverkusen have been in fine-scoring form this year, scoring 24 times in just eight games, while Atalanta’s defence has been leaky – the Italian side have conceded 31 goals in 27 league matches so far and 18 in 13 at home.
Bodo v Alkmaar: over 1.5 goals
Bodo are unbeaten in an incredible 32 games and won their last 5, including both matches in their tie with Celtic. Alkmaar are also in decent form and had over 2.5 goals in 6/7 games.
Vitesse v Roma: Roma win/draw
Vitesse have lost 5/8 games, while Roma have seen an upswing in form, having collected 5 wins in their last 9 games and only losing 1 of them.
Leicester v Rennes: Over 1.5 goals
Both Leicester and Rennes’ have seen lots of goals in their games this season and they are both teams who like to attack. 8/11 Leicester games had over 2.5 goals, while 8/10 Rennes games had over 1.5 goals.
