PSL TRANSFERS – 7 PLAYERS DESTINED FOR A BIG MOVE

With a little over a month to go until the PSL transfer window closes, Hansley Jugar looks at seven players who need to move to take the next step in their careers.

Of the seven players identified, five are ready for moves abroad, with the remaining two ready for moves to one of the big local clubs (Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United).

Do you agree with the list?

The reigning PSL Footballer of the season caught the eye with some glittering performances. After a quiet start to his Pirates career, he came to life this past season.

Positioned mostly on the left-wing and given the freedom to cut inside, he had the best shot accuracy and 2nd most shots on target in the league. There have been no concrete offers for him at this point but there is apparent interest in his services from Europe.

Aubrey Modiba has had two sensational seasons at SuperSport United and it feels like the 2015/2016 PSL Young Player of the Season has been around for ages.

One of the most consistent players in the league, his flexibility and ability on the ball means he can slot into a variety of positions and excel.

Mamelodi Sundowns have apparently submitted an offer but Stan Matthews (SSU CEO) says only an offer from abroad will be accepted.

Another SuperSport United player and current PSL Young Player of the Season, Teboho Mokoena is a future Bafana Bafana star in the making.

He has made a name for himself as a scorer of “worldies”, but his all-round game must be commended. An astute passer of the ball and tenacious tackler, he has already had an offer from a 2. Bundesliga team rejected.

The 2018/2019 season was a frustrating one for Cape Town City star Thabo Nodada. He was undoubtedly one of the best players in the league going into the halfway mark but had to watch on from the sidelines after getting a season-ending injury in February.

He is back in training and a move is unlikely at this stage. If he picks up where he left off though, he could be primed for a move abroad which he himself has always stated is his ultimate goal.

From a player, Sundowns were interested in, to one currently on their books. Lebohang Maboe shamed detractors and sceptics during his first season at Sundowns.

It was always going to take a special player to replace Percy Tau but Maboe stepped up almost immediately. At 24, he will only improve but a move abroad is the best place to continue his development.

Mothobi Mvala was heavily linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs midseason which made sense, with Willard Katsande now firmly in his 30s, an adequate replacement was due.

Chiefs ended up signing James Kotei but the big clubs could do worse than considering the hard-working midfielder. Other than winning an impressive number of his duels, he contributes effectively on the offensive end.

Finally, we have Sibusiso Mabiliso. The Amazulu left-back is highly regarded and made his debut as an 18-year-old. He played the most minutes of any player under the age of 20 at the beginning of the season and has the potential to become a leading left-back in the league.
