Orlando Pirates

The final round of DSTV Premiership action takes place this weekend with various permutations and combinations in play for relegation and the Top8. There is plenty to play in almost every game this weekend, and we worked on a betting guide to help our readers make sense of the action.

AmaZulu v Orlando Pirates

AmaZulu are too far for relegation and too far for Top8, so it may just be pride to play for when they host Pirates in this final game week of the season. Their visitors on the other hand know that anything less than three points may jeopardise their CAF Champions League chances. Resting players for the Cup semi may have contributed to a disruption in their recent rhythm, but we’re backing the Bucs to end the season on a high. We’re also thinking of AmaZulu winning just one final-day game in the last 10 seasons.

14 – Pirates are unbeaten in 14 games v AmaZulu (W6 D8 L0 since 2013), currently their longest run without losing against any side.

Kaizer Chiefs v Cape Town City

Chiefs have already lost too much ground for a CAF position, but it would be a mistake to think they have nothing left to play for. Yet, one clean sheet in 10 games across all competitions for them has rather complicated Arthur Zwane’s life of late. Cape Town City are poised to leapfrog them into fifth should they win, but a positive Chiefs result could change the tone of the noise around the club. Yet, City has always been a tricky tie, and Amakhosi are winless in each of the last four meetings.

10 – Eric Tinkler has won 10 matches against Kaizer Chiefs in his coaching career, more than he has against any other PSL opponent.

Sekhukhune v SuperSport

Sekhukhune will want to add a Top 8 finish to the Nedbank Cup final to cap off their solid season. But to do the former, they may need a result against a Gavin Hunt side chasing their own goals. Truter’s side have won 70% of their points at home this season (26/37), the highest such proportion of all teams. Similarly, SuperSport are the only team unbeaten at home all season, but their away form has been shaky. They are winless in seven away league games, the longest such streak under Gavin Hunt (both spells). It could be another tough afternoon.

0 – Brandon Truter has never lost a game to Gavin Hunt (P4 W2 D2 L0)

Chippa United v Golden Arrows

It’s make-or-break time for Chippa, who needs to get something to avoid relegation. Defeat would confirm automatic relegation, while a draw or win gives them another shot at the top flight either via the playoffs or even ending up in 14th. One win in 10 league games extends to just 2 in the last 18, and you can easily see why they’re fighting for their lives yet again. Arrows are aiming to return to the Top 8 after a one-season hiatus, so expect them to give this a real go.

44 – Chippa have conceded more goals than any other side this season (44).
