Latest: PSL Matchday 9 Betting Tips

The busy festive season of domestic football kicks off this weekend with a 5-game complement of games in the PSL.

Two soccer players are competing fiercely for the ball during a match. One player, dressed in a black and gold uniform, is maneuvering to control the ball while the other, in a white kit with gold accents, is attempting a tackle or block.

The top three teams in the PSL have an off-weekend domestically, as they are involved in continental football.

Ironically, they are engaged in CAF football because they were also the top three teams last season – in the exact same order. It means the league table may look slightly different when they return, but not too much. Every week, we bring you the weekend action in a statistical context through our Betting guide.

TS Galaxy vs AmaZulu

Date: Saturday 7 Dec 2024
Kickoff: 15:30 SAST
Venue: Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit

For the first time in over a year, AmaZulu have managed back-to-back wins in the PSL. Those results will have done wonders for their confidence but there is still a long way for them to go to get off the bottom of the table.

They get a chance to make it three in a row for the first time since September 2022, but face a tricky trip away to TS Galaxy on Saturday. In the last six meetings between the sides, Usuthu have won just once, losing three times and drawing two.

The hosts are favouried towin here at 2/1, while the visitors are currently pegged at 25% for the win (4/1). That said, they may be good value for at least a goal as they come up against a side that has conceded the joint-most goals in the league.

We reckon Over 0.5 goals for AmaZulu at 1.68/1 is worth a lump, but Over 1.5 goals at 4.55/1 – now that’s exciting.

TS Galaxy are one of only two teams yet to keep a clean sheet in the PSL this season.

Sekhukhune v Cape Town City

Date: Saturday, 7 Dec 2024
Kickoff: 20:00 SAST
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane

Both these teams have a solitary win in their last five games. Yet City will be happier that at least they have two draws (regulation time) in that run. For Sekhukhune, the other four games have ended in defeat.

They will have revenge in mind when they meet City on Saturday – after all City knocked them out of the MTN8 at the start of the season. Yet, City have had some good times away here in recent years – unbeaten in three visits since a 1-0 loss in 2021.

The odds are closer in this game than any other this weekend – 39% for the hosts to win and 34% for the visitors. That makes us lean towards a tight game.

Five of the seven games between these teams have seen Under 1.5 goals, with 1-0 being the most common scoreline.

Polokwane City v Kaizer Chiefs

Date: Sunday 8 Dec 2024
Kickoff: 15:30
Venue: Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane

Sunday sees just one game in the league, with Amakhosi traveling to take on Polokwane City. The hosts can climb up to third with a win here, so that will provide some motivation. Another source of motivation is that exactly a year ago, Chiefs won 1-0 in this same fixture.

Surprisingly, Chiefs are favoured to win here (at 2.15/1), which may have to do with Polokwane’s recent form – they are winless in three games (D1 L2). But Rise and Shine have lost just one of their last ten home games in the league, so the draw looks like a good shout here. Or we foresee some goals for them at least.

Chiefs have conceded in every game this season, the first time in PSL history that they have no clean sheet in seven opening games.
