Liverpool face Tottenham . Spurs have lost three league fixtures in a row whilst the Reds have won just twice in seven matches in all competitions. Liverpool are 13 matches unbeaten vs Spurs at Anfield.
Liverpool Form
Liverpool’s last seven matches have seen just two wins. In the last 12 fixtures, they have been knocked out of the FA Cup and the Europa League and seen their title chances vanish. A 2-2 draw at Man Utd and a 3-0 home loss to Atalanta in the Europa League were hugely damaging.
After a 1-0 home loss to Crystal Palace, they restored some dignity by winning 1-0 at Atalanta to lose 3-1 on aggregate. After winning 3-1 at Fulham, they lost 2-0 at Everton in the Merseyside derby despite attempting 23 shots. Last Saturday, they could only draw 2-2 away at West Ham.
Liverpool Team News
Jurgen Klopp may have Conor Bradley back in contention after injury. Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara, and Diogo Jota are all ruled out.
Virgil Van Dijk is a question mark of barely training all week. He should be able to start this one, though. Mo Salah could be recalled or even left out entirely after his public spat with Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool Motivation
The title is gone but motivation should still be there as this is Klopp’s second-last-ever match at Anfield.
Liverpool will try to attack and get back to creating and finishing off their chances. A draw would be seen as a bad result.
Tottenham Form
With four losses in seven league matches, including three on the bounce, Spurs are not likely to finish any higher than fifth. Before that, it was eight wins in 11 league fixtures and things looked positive. A 4-0 win at Aston Villa was followed by a 3-0 loss at Fulham to start the rot.
After a 2-1-win vs Luton, a 1-1 draw at West Ham, and a 3-1 home win vs Nottingham Forest, it’s three losses in a row. They were destroyed 4-0 at Newcastle and then lost 3-2 at home to Arsenal having trailed 3-0. In midweek, they produced a tepid performance to lose 2-0 at an injury-ravaged Chelsea.
Tottenham Team News
Spurs remain without Timo Werner, Ryan Sessegnon, and Manor Solomon in wide areas due to injury. Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies are both injured at left back so Emerson Royal will start again.
Ange Postecoglou dropped James Maddison on Thursday and the playmaker looks out of form. Gio Lo Celso could be given a chance whilst he may bring Rodrigo Bentancur back into the XI too.
Tottenham Motivation
Spurs’ top-four hopes are in tatters. Even a win here and it will take a miracle to usurp Aston Villa.
Postecoglou will try to play a high-tempo, attacking game. His players didn’t get that message in midweek with a laboured approach and too many sideways passes.
