The English Premier League is at the halfway mark now with Arsenal currently occupying the top position with 45 points. There have been some wonderful players who have shown great form from Erling Haaland to Marcus Rashford this season. Let’s take a look at the best players in the Premier League so far.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
Kevin De Bruyne continues to dominate the headlines in the English Premier League even this season. The talented Belgian international is ranked as the best midfielder in the league and arguably the best to ever grace the EPL.
He’s got the ability to shoot and score from anywhere, with either foot. He runs past players with and without the ball. But most impressive of all is his ludicrous vision and passing, which is so good that he sees gaps and free teammates before we have the chance to tell him from the stands or through our TV screens, and before those teammates even know they’re an option for him.
De Bruyne tops the list of assist this season as he has 12 in 19 appearances. If Manchester City are hoping to successfully catch Arsenal and retain the league title, De Bruyne must continue to deliver like he has done so far this season.
Nick Pope (Newcastle United)
Newcastle United’s Nick Pope has featured in every one of his side’s 20 Premier League matches in 2022/2023, starting in all 20. He has collected a clean sheet in 12 matches this campaign so far; the most in the competition. The 20-year-old England international has finally shown the capabilities that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
Eddie Howe’s troops are currently sitting in 3rd position in the league, which is the automatic UEFA Champions League spot. To continue their fine form this season, they have to continue to rely on Pope to provide excellent goalkeeping throughout the season. The 30-year-old lanky goalkeeper is already a serious contender for the player of the season accolade after showing heroic performances this season.
Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
Bukayo Saka is having quite the individual season. The English forward is having a brilliant season with seven goals and seven assists in the Premier League so far. Saka looks stronger and faster this year and is much harder to knock off the ball, despite many defenders trying. He now looks like he can be a match-winner for Arsenal and will be key for the rest of the season.
Saka has strong attacking incisiveness and creativity and is now regarded as one of the best young football players in the English Premier League this season. The 21-year-old will be instrumental if Arsenal are to win their first league title in 20 years.
Kieran Trippier (Newcastle United)
It is very hard to believe that at the age of 32, Trippier is playing good football like that and is showing no signs of slowing down. Signed from Atletico Madrid to strengthen Newcastle United’s defence, no one ever imagined that Trippier will have a season to remember. For his performance this season, the talented defender has been given a contract extension to be at the club till the summer of 2025.
For Newcastle, who are hoping to appear in the UEFA Champions League next season, they have to rely on experienced players like Trippier to lead them if they want to go far in the tournament.
Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
Martin Odegaard has been exceptional this season for Arsenal. The attacking midfielder has featured in 18 matches for the gunners scoring eight goals and assisting six times.
Signed in 2021 for little more than €35 million after a lukewarm loan spell at the club, Odegaard has repaid the faith management shown to him and is not regretting bringing him to Emirates Stadium. As Arsenal look to win the title for the first time in 20 years, Odegaard has shown some great leadership in the side and is one of the excellent performers.
Most fans across the world are finally seeing the potential of Odegaard, who was rated highly from a young age when signing for Real Madrid at the age of 16. Despite failing to establish himself in the starting lineup of Los Blancos, the 24-year- old Norwegian has done well to rescue his career and enjoy football again.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City)
Haaland has announced himself in England with a bang since completing a move from Borussia Dortmund at the start of the season. Haaland has 25 goals in the 19 league matches so far this season. He is on the verge of setting records.
He has already put himself into the records books, including becoming the quickest individual to score two and three hat-tricks and becoming the first player in the league’s history to score three successive hat-tricks in home games.
Blessed with the pace and clever movement to run in behind; Haaland is capable of dribbling past defenders and can create goalscoring opportunities for his teammates. Plus he is dangerous when he is shooting as he uses both feet and has strong aerial qualities. The 22-year-old Norwegian is the true definition of a complete striker.
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
For quite some time, Marcus Rashford has been ranked as one of the most talented players that England has ever produced. Despite showing some hope, Rashford has battled with the consistency in terms of scoring goals. That has been the disappointing thing about the 25-year-old which even made people suggest that Manchester United should release him.
The speedy striker looks like he has turned the tables around this season. Playing under Erik Ten Hag as the manager, Rashford finally shut down the naysayers about his talent. He has nine goals plus three assists in 20 league appearances this season. With the Red Devils looking to reclaim the glory days back at Old Trafford, Rashford has been delivering the goods when it matters.
