Match: Arsenal vs Everton
When: Saturday, 14 December 2024, 17:00 SAST
Where: Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal Form

Arsenal were in a poor run of form which saw a 2-0 loss at Bournemouth with ten men and a 1-0 loss at Newcastle. A 1-0 defeat at Inter Milan in the Champions League was followed by a 1-1 draw at Chelsea. Mikel Arteta’s side bounced back to beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at home after the FIFA break.

A convincing 5-1 thrashing of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League preceded a 5-2 hammering of West Ham in the league. After beating Man Utd 2-0, they dropped points in a stale 1-1 draw at Fulham despite limiting the Cottagers to just two shots. On Wednesday, they beat Monaco 3-0.

Arsenal Team News

Takehiro Tomiyasu and Ben White are absent in defence. Both Gabriel and Riccardo Calafiori have missed the last few matches but are nearing a return to the XI.

Oleks Zinchenko could be back in contention for this match. Arteta must choose between Thomas Partet, Mikel Merino and Jorginho in midfield. Kai Havertz will return to the lineup in attack.

Arsenal Motivation

Arsenal’s two dropped points at Fulham were damaging. Nothing less than a convincing win is needed here.

The Gunners will look to attack Everton and win by a decent margin. They’ve scored freely vs these opponents at home of late.

Everton Form

Everton saw the Merseyside derby postponed last week. The Toffees have won just three of their last 15 league matches and they’re struggling to score goals regularly. A 2-0 win at Ipswich was followed by a last-gasp Beto equaliser in a 1-1 home draw against Fulham.

A poor 1-0 loss at Southampton was followed by two 0-0 stalemates, away at West Ham and at home to Brentford. To highlight their inconsistency, a 4-0 thrashing at Man Utd was followed by a 4-0 thrashing of Wolves as Sean Dyche’s team scored four goals from 13 shots.

Everton Team News

Sean Dyche remains without three central midfielders in Timothy Iroegbunam, James Garner and Dele Alli. Michael Keane has a knee injury and is a serious doubt for this one.

Armando Broja and Youssef Chermiti are back to boost the options in attack. Ashley Young will hope to start at right back in preference to fit-again duo Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson.

Everton Motivation

The Toffees are expected to sit deep and cede possession to the Gunners. They may only see 35% of the ball.

A draw would feel like a victory. They will try to slow the game down and frustrate Arsenal from the first minute.
