The last 16 begins on Sunday with an unpredictable clash between Burkina Faso and Gabon and a battle of titans in Nigeria and Tunisia.
The last 16 was a hugely entertaining round of the last Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, with Bafana Bafana’s upset win over Egypt the pick of the bunch. While few would have predicted that result, we have done our best to follow the trends and give you our predictions on what will happen this time out.
Our suggested bets can be placed separately or together at increased odds in a single bet.
Burkina Faso v Gabon
Burkina Faso have had a mixed Africa Cup of Nations tournament so far, losing 2-1 to Cameroon before recovering with a 1-0 win over Cape Verde and then drawing 1-1 with Ethiopia.
Gabon have played at roughly the same level, beating Comoros 1-0 before drawing 1-1 with Ghana and 2-2 with Morocco.
The last three fixtures between these teams have seen one win apiece and a draw. This clash between two evenly-matched sides is likely to go to extra time or even penalties.
Nigeria v Tunisia
Nigeria are riding a wave after three successive group stage wins over Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau with goals coming from all over the pitch.
Tunisia, meanwhile, lost to Mali and Gambia with only a win over Mauritania getting them through to the knockout rounds.
Augustine Eguavoen’s men are likely to put the Carthage Eagles out of their misery and end their disappointing AFCON campaign.
