It’s that time of the week again when we run through a selection of the most exciting matches taking place this weekend and offer our best bets and value picks.

Liverpool v Chelsea (Saturday)

Premier League’s sleeping giants Liverpool and Chelsea square off at Anfield on Saturday, with both sides desperate for three points to boost their top-four hopes. Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking to snap a two-match losing streak in the league, while Graham Potter’s men will be hoping to build on their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace. The Reds will be regarded as favourites and with four wins from their last five at home will fancy their chances of victory.

West Ham v Everton (Saturday)

Both sides find themselves in the somewhat unfamiliar position of being in the bottom three after a dismal start to the 2022-23 campaign. Encounters between the two teams have often been cagey, with under 1.5 goals in four of the last five meetings.

Atletico Madrid v Real Valladolid (Saturday)

Atletico Madrid entertains Real Valladolid at the Wanda Metropolitano in La Liga action on Saturday. Diego Simeone’s team are winless since the resumption of club football, losing 1-0 at home to Barcelona before drawing 1-1 at Almeria last time out. Valladolid meanwhile are on a four-match losing streak and lies just one point above the relegation zone.

Villarreal v Girona (Sunday)

Villarreal will seek to get back to winning ways when they host Girona in La Liga on Sunday. The Yellow Submarine had to settle for a 1-1 draw away at Celta Vigo last time out, snapping a three-game winning streak. Girona, on the other hand, are unbeaten in seven league matches with three wins and four draws.

Salernitana v Napoli (Saturday)

Runaway Serie A leaders Napoli travel to face 15th-placed Salernitana on Saturday. Luciano Spalletti’s side demolished Juventus 5-1 last Friday to move 10 points clear at the table’s summit, while the Salerno side were thumped 8-2 away at Atalanta, stretching their winless run to eight matches.

Spezia v AS Roma (Sunday)

Sunday will see Roma look to continue their quest for a top-four place against 16th-placed Spezia. Having completed the league double over the hosts last season, Jose Mourinho’s men will be confident of claiming all three points.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Schalke (Saturday)

The Bundesliga returns this week after a two-month break for the World Cup and Eintracht Frankfurt plays host to Schalke on Saturday. The home side are fourth in the table on 27 points after 15 games, while the visitors are rooted to the foot of the table, just short of double digits with nine points.

Dortmund v Augsburg (Sunday)

Borussia Dortmund returns to Bundesliga action on Sunday looking to get their season back on track when they host Augsburg. Edin Terzic’s side had suffered two straight defeats before the World Cup break but are unbeaten in their last five at home with four wins and a draw. The visitors meanwhile are winless in seven matches and languish 14th in the table.

PSV v Vitesse (Saturday)

PSV will look to get back on track when they host 14th-placed Vitesse in the Eredivisie on Saturday. The hosts have dropped points in each of their last two matches, losing to AZ and drawing with Sparta Rotterdam. Prior to that, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side had won 12 in a row.

AZ v Fortuna Sittard (Sunday)

AZ will be looking to continue their winning ways when they host Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The home side claimed a 2-0 win away at Heerenveen last time out, which lifted them up to second in the table, while the visitors earned a 2-2 draw at home to PSV, taking them up to 12th on the log.
