Super Rugby AU: Round 4 Predictions

The Rebels host the Waratahs on Friday in Sydney in the first match of Round 4 of Super Rugby AU. On Sunday, the Western Force are up against the tournament favourite Brumbies in New South Wales.

We preview each match in Round 4 of Super Rugby AU.

Friday 24 July

11:05 – Waratahs v Melbourne Rebels

The 2020 version of the Waratahs has been nothing short of a disappointment with only two victories in their nine matches. Since Super Rugby AU began the Waratahs have lost two and won one but their form has improved marginally since the restart.

A 32-26 opening weekend loss to the Reds was followed by an unconvincing 23-14 win over the Western Force in Sydney. Last weekend the Tahs’ almost pulled off a massive upset going down narrowly 24-23 to the Brumbies at home in a decent contest.

The Rebels began the Super Rugby AU campaign with a 31-23 loss to the Brumbies in Canberra. In their last match, the Rebels were close to victory, with five minutes to play they led the Reds 18-8 but it ended 18-18. There were 10 minutes of extra time but neither side managed to score the golden points.

The Rebels won the last meeting between the two sides in Melbourne earlier this year. It was a dominant performance by the hosts’ as they went on to win 24-10.

Prediction: Rebels by 3.

11:15 – Western Force v Brumbies

The Force lost 31-24 to the Reds in Brisbane last week in what a solid performance for side returning from Super Rugby wilderness…. they are still winless in the competition. The week before they lost to the Waratahs after leading 14-0 but eventually went down 23-14. It’s hard to see them overcoming the tournament favourites and the unbeaten Brumbies.

The Brumbies struck nice and late against the Waratahs and earned a hard-fought 24-23 win in Sydney last week. In Round 1 of Super Rugby AU, the Brumbies beat the Rebels 31-23 in Canberra, scoring five tries to two and they managed to pick up a bonus point in the process. They are two in two and should make it three in three after this weekend.

Prediction: Brumbies by 14.
