The 2nd edition of the SA20 resumes on Wednesday 10 January and is expected to provide some fireworks. This year’s competition has largely come to people’s attention for many reasons. The Proteas players have committed themselves to take part at the expense of sacrificing the tour to New Zealand next month. That alone has created some sort of debate even though SA20 will help Cricket South CSA) to recover financially. Let’s take a look at some of the players to watch in the SA20.
Jason Roy (Paarl Royals)
Jason Roy is the perfect blend of a T20 player. The Englishman opener is known for his aggressive and hard-hitting approach from the way go. It is no wonder he has played in different T20 leagues across the world. Last year, he didn’t have the tournament he wished for, but he is certain to have the ability to turn the heat. In his team, he will be supported by clinical batsmen like David Miller and Jos Buttler to make him shine even more. Roy is expected to give bowlers a tough time during the tournament.
Quinton De Kock (Durban’s Super Giants)
The 31-year-old South African batsman is known for his clinical batting and is one of the most dangerous players in the world. He recently participated in the Big Bash League in Australia for the Melbourne Renegades where he was snatched for the big fee. For the Durban Super Giants to come close to winning the tournament will need De Kock to lead the attack well. He can strike the ball with perfection.
Gerald Coetzee (Joburg Super Kings)
The rise of Gerald Coetzee especially last year has been wonderful to watch. The young bowler has shown some tremendous talent which has grabbed some cricket fanatics across the globe. He has emerged as one of the greatest youngsters in the world at the moment. He is no doubt enjoying the best cricket of his career at the moment. So, Coetzee will be up to prove to the world that he is the best and can deliver when it matters most.
Dewald Brevis (MI Cape Town)
To be compared to AB de Villiers while you are still 20 years of age is a privilege, isn’t it? Brevis is widely regarded as the most talented batsman of his generation and is expected to dominate the game in the years to come. Brevis is not afraid to take the risk and doesn’t wait for too long to launch the attack. Those are the qualities that set up to be an outstanding batsman compared to the rest. So, he is expected to ignite fire with the ball.
