Jurgen Klopp has announced that he will leave Liverpool FC at the end of the season. It brings down the eight successful years with the club in which he helped the club win the English Premier League title for the first time in three decades. Plus, the German mastermind won the UEFA Champions League title with the Reds in 2019. The legacy that Klopp will leave at the club will be so hard to fill. Let’s look at the managers likely to replace him in June.
3: Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho’s work speaks volumes. In his career as the coach, he has achieved so much in most of the clubs he has coached. Now without a job after being fired by AS Roma in January, the Portuguese mentor is now among the favorites to take over as the new Liverpool FC manager. He is not short of the English Premier League experience too. He has twice managed Chelsea FC where he has won three league titles in those spells. Recently, he has coached Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs even though his time never lasted so much. A proven winner with the mentality of transforming a club to play in his own ways, Mourinho is the kind of manager they need if they are in need of results. If the Reds are looking for a manager who can take the club to new heights Mourinho is the man that can be trusted with the job.
2: Roberto De Zerbi
Brighton & Hove Albion FC Manager Roberto De Zerbi is one of the managers tipped to grab the position at Anfield come the end of the season. The 44-year-old Italian manager has been highly praised for playing beautiful football since taking over Brighton in 2022. De Zerbi achieved the unthinkable taking the club to the European competition. Known for using young players and blending them with some old players with experience, De Zerbi has seemed to go it right in the short spell in the English Premier League football and it is for that reason he has become the hot property. Besides being tipped for the Liverpool job he has also attracted offers including Bayern Munich and Manchester United. It remains to be seen which club will win the race to sign him for the next season.
1: Xabi Alonso
Xabi Alonso has done well in terms of becoming one of the leading managers across the world in a short space of time. The Bayer Leverkusen boss has done wonders for the club since taking over in October 2022. Leverkusen was lying in the relegation zone when he took over, but Alonso has transformed the club into a league contender hoping to end Bayern Munich’s dominance. The former Liverpool player is enjoying his time in Germany as it is his first senior managerial job having coached Real Sociedad and Real Madrid’s junior side before landing this position. His understanding of the club culture having spent time there makes him a top candidate to take over in June. One thing that is the worrying factor is his lack of experience in coaching a big club or in a big league like the Premier League. But looking at his success rate as the manager makes him a man who can be able to keep the project rolling.
