Our 3 best bets for Sha Tin 27 May
Race 1 – SHEARWATER HANDICAP (DIV I) (CLASS 4)
opens the day with the 12-runner handicap over 1200m. With , it’s always worth having a go. Class 4 handicap usual bring some below average runners in the course, and here we’re looking purely for a progressive type trending in the right direction.
– Victor Wong seems to have struck up something good with this gelding, with an impressive 1.25 length winner last time out. He goes up in the rating and weight by staying in Class 4, but the opposition looks just as beatable in my opinion. Drawn mid-pack will suit the pair, and the hope is that the odds hover around 8/1 or greater, good range for a longshot selection.
Race 6 – FLAMINGO HANDICAP (DIV I) (CLASS 3)
has one selection that seems the standout on form and is conditions suited for the race. The price will likely shorten on this come race time, but this 12 runner 1200m clash doesn’t have much in the way of depth.
– This last start winner is a big fan of the all weather track. Chad Schofield has partnered with him in all 3 starts to date. Up in class and in search of a hat trick of wins, the month off from its last race will mean he’ll be sharp for this. He seems progressive and will relish the drop in weights against the better class of opposition.
Race 8 – FLAMINGO HANDICAP (DIV II) (CLASS 3)
looks a wide open race, an upset should bring decent each way odds here. It’s unknown what the punters will fancy here, but there are likely one or two horses that will start shorter odds that our selection in this 12-runner 1200m Class 3.
– This Australian import has had just the one start in Hong Kong, and 3rd on the Happy Valley grass behind an impressive winner in Victoriam. Karis Teetan picks up the ride on its all-weather debut, and the jockey booking along indicates improvement from that run a couple weeks back. From the 3 draw, if he can get handy again, it may prove difficult to peg him back at the business ends. If the price holds, a solid value bet in my opinion.
