Our 3 best bets for Happy Valley 3 June
Race 1 – OLD BAILEY HANDICAP (CLASS 3)
starts the night off with a 8 runner field battling it out over 2200m. I’m usually backing value in the first because of , but this time I’m siding with the likely favourite. Even still, it’s risk-free on the bookies, and you can’t complain about that!
– The 4 year old finished half a length back in 3rd last time out, when not really fancied at big odds. He gets a change in jockey, and being Joao Moreira, you’d imagine he sees potential for this race. Besides Beauty Happy being a last start winner and Blastoise’s last couple of decent runs, there’s not much else on offer. This pick will enjoy the extra 400m and I’d imagine we’ll see a strong finish from him and Moreira in the opener.
Race 4 – STAUNTON HANDICAP (DIV 2) (CLASS 4)
brings us a 12-runner 1200m handicap with one stand out contender. There are a few Class 4 knockers in this one, but it’s the young and progressive top weight that should come out tops.
– This lightly raced 3 year old is a course and distance last start winner. It was a solid performance from him having to overcome an awkward draw and then fight on hard to earn the win. That type of guts in younger horses is well worth following and Purton retains the ride in a field of competitors he looks equally likely to beat. It will go off short odds, so consider as a potential banker in your multiple and system bets.
Race 8 – LYNDHURST HANDICAP (CLASS 3)
is an 11 runner handicap over 1600m, and we’ve gone for another Zac Purton ride. This field holds a lot more potential for getting us beat, with some notable contenders at decent odds.
– Purton takes our fancy again in this one, partnering up with another last start winner. That win came off an 80 day break, and if anything this pick will race fitter this time out. There are concerns from others like Sunshine Warrior and Flash Famous, but unless betting support suggest another win is in doubt, I’ll be in the camp of the improving Rich And Lucky.
