Daily Horse Racing Tips – 24 March 2020
Horse racing remains the last bastion of live sport in South Africa so we’ve decided that we must keep you informed with some handy tips from Turffontein today.
A fairly weak field to start the day in this Workriders Maiden Plate, not too many to get excited about in this field. PUCKER UP from the Webber yard looks like the best on paper but St.John Grays’ ANATURA could be the one to give the favourite the most trouble while EVOKE could look to fill the minors.
Suggested BET: The Mawing/Mawing combination could be a key factor in this race with their filly CHASING GREEN, it has been nearly a year since this filly has seen the track and all three of her previous starts were in the Western Cape, if she can reproduce her earlier form she could be the one to beat. CAERPHILLY did everything but win the race last time out and Raymond Danielson takes the ride again hoping to go one better this time. WESTERN VISION from the Mike De Kock yard ran a very creditable second on Saturday and if this follow up run isn’t too soon should also be right there.
Suggested BET: The in-form Candace Dawson yard have put apprentice Mxoli on their three-year-old gelding PLUVIOPHILE, the apprentice is proving to be well worth his four kgs and if they let him get away here he might be hard to pull back with the blinkers on for the first time. Filly NORDIC QUEEN from the Dorrie Sham yard, Striker Strydom takes the ride again, last time out she hit the front but couldn’t find any extra at the finish so the drop in distance should suit her. BARTHOLOMEUS with Raymond Danielson up should also be contesting the finish.
Suggested BET: SUPER DUPER is back at her favourite track and if you go back to two runs ago over the same Course & Distance she was flying at the finish and unlucky not to get up in a good contest behind Smoking Hot, the form line has been franked on two occasions after that run and if reproducing anything close to that run she should be difficult to beat. CURVATION and DAPHNE DU MAURIER both finished in front of SUPER DUPER last time out at The Vaal and should prove to be her closest rivals.
Suggested BET: The fifth race is a very tricky Handicap over 1000 meters, it looks like a race that if run 10 times you would probably get 10 different results. KING OF THE DELTA is a massive runner here but it is a bit of a concern that he has been off the track since his last win in November over this same Course & Distance. Roy Magner sends out three couplings ISPHAN, ROYAL RENEGADE and PILLAROFTHEEARTH all three of these look like big runners and will definitely give the King something to think about.
Suggested BET: The in-form AMERICAN LANDING has finished runner up in his last two starts on this track. The son of Dynasty will be looking to go one better today and enjoys this c&d. He should be included in all bets. BOLD VIKING was running on last time despite being slow away and will be doing his best work late. MANGROVE was beaten by the second selection last time out and looks to be held on that run, but his better suited to his distance and is one to watch.
Suggested BET: Paul Peter sends out a strong coupling in this race FLORIDA QUAYS is a very smart sort and is now a six-time winner from 18 starts, she gets the services of Muzi Yeni as well as the number 1 draw, the stable elect though looks to be PROMISE with almost untouchable jockey Warren Kennedy in the irons, she is also a six-time winner with two of those coming over this exact Course & Distance. The horse that could give the Peter inmates the most cheek is TOO PHAT TOO FLY from the Bared Botes yard, although she hasn’t won in nearly 2 years she had no luck in running last time out and if she jumps on terms she will be contesting the finish.
Suggested BET: Last week at Turffontein Mike De Kock sent out his maiden horse Bassam into the last race handicap and it came home with flying colours, he looks to match the same feat here with his horse FIRE FLOWER, with only the three runs to her name she tries the 1450m for the first time dropping down from a mile, Callan Murray gets the ride and she must be respected in this wide open contest. MISS KHALIFA is ultra consistent but the Corne Spies runner has the 17 draw to overcome, she likes to come from off the pace so if Chase Maujean can drop her into a handy position and with a bit of luck in running she should be contesting the finish. READYSETGLO from the Azzie yard could also have a say here.
