The West Indies will be looking to bounce back and save the series in the second and final Test against South Africa tomorrow at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The Proteas will be aiming to complete a series whitewash after winning the first Test by 87 runs. Lwanele Poswayo is back with his prediction and best bets for the final Test of the series.
Dean Elgar
Dean Elgar looked back to his best in the first innings of the previous game after scoring 71 runs. He’ll be looking to improve his decision-making after being dismissed in the exact same way in both innings. His fantastic record at the Wanderers is the main reason why I’m backing him to score 50+ runs in the first innings.
The former Proteas captain has scored 1470 runs at an average of 49.76, including 1 hundred and 3 fifties at this venue.
Kagiso Rabada
With Anrich Nortje ruled out of tomorrow’s Test, Kagiso Rabada is the obvious choice for South Africa’s top bowler, hence his odds are at 2.75. He was brilliant in the West Indies’ second innings, ending on figures of 6/50. There’s more value in backing the Proteas’ spearhead to be Player of the Match at 8.00.
Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph was arguably the West Indies’ best bowler in the first Test, with figures of 7/111 in the match, including a five-for. He gave the majority of South Africa’s batsmen a few issues and will be an even bigger threat at the Wanderers, a ground known for its pace and bounce.
Highest Individual Score
Both teams’ batting lineups did not impress apart from Aiden Markram, and I think we will see another low-scoring and quick Test match. The average first-innings score for the last ten innings at the Wanderers is 297, climbing to 336 for the teams who won batting first. The average opening partnership in those ten first innings was 38.
Prediction
The Windies have lost both previous matches played at the Wanderers. The Proteas will go into this game full of confidence with their bowlers being too much for the Windies’ batters. I’m backing the hosts to complete a series whitewash.
