Chennai Super Kings welcome Rajasthan Royals to the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday in the 17th match of IPL 2023. CSK have a fantastic record at home, winning 72% of their matches but will come up against a Royals side that could cause them problems at home. Lwanele Poswayo has prepared his betting tips for this encounter.
Betting Preview
Chennai Super King’s have a fantastic record at home but the Royals have the team to neutralise their home advantage. The M.A. Chidambaram Stadium is known for assisting the spinners and both sides have quality spinners in their team, with Mitchell Santner and Ravindra Jadeja for CSK while RR have the duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin.
It will be the 27th time these two side meet in the IPL, with CSK holding the advantage with 15 wins to RR’s 11. After a stutter in a close game against Punjab Kings, the Royals have been brilliant, beating Delhi Capitals comprehensively to go with the thrashing they handed Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The four time champions Chennai Super Kings have won two on the trot after losing this season’s opener to the Gujarat Titans by five wickets. Since then, they have beaten the Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs before following that up with an emphatic seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians.
CSK have won 41 of their 57 home games in the IPL, which is nearly 72%, and their win against Mumbai Indians showed their batting has the quality to take on a fantastic Royals’ batting lineup.
The player to watch for this game is Ravindra Jadeja who, along with his 2506 runs at an average of 26.10 has taken 136 wickets. He was fantastic in the previous game against Mumbai Indians, taking 3 wickets for 20 runs at economy rate of 5.00.
This is a tough game to call but I’m backing the away side to come out on top as I believe they have the batting lineup and the spinners to beat CSK.
Key Stat
Royals have a run-rate of 11.66 and score 52.5 runs on average per wicket in the first six overs. Super Kings have corresponding numbers of 11.00 and 66.00.
The Conway-Gaikwad partnership has been a bit hit-or-miss: they have three century stands so far, as well as five single-digit stands.
Boult has been in red-hot form with the new ball, and he might look forward to bowling to Gaikwad. The Super Kings opener has been out 11 times in 19 IPL innings to that style of bowling.
Buttler has struggled against both Santner (26 runs in 24 balls) and Theekshana (19 runs in 25 balls) in T20s. Moeen, meanwhile, has dismissed him three times in seven innings, while only conceding 46 runs in 39 balls.
The Chennai Super Kings have won their last eight games at Chepauk when starting as the pre-match favourites.
CSK have won seven of their ten home H2H matches when batting second.
No team has successfully defended a sub-190 total in IPL 2023.
