Gujarat Titans will be looking for their third consecutive win in their first-ever IPL campaign when they face off against the Punjab Kings this afternoon at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. This will be a battle of a proper T20 side full of big hitters against an attack boasting pace, seam, swing, spin and variations.
Let’s take a look at the Betting Preview for this exciting encounter.
Betting Preview
On the back of powerplay totals of 63, 62 and 72, Punjab have clearly announced their intentions for IPL 2022 with their start to the season. The Kings boast the highest powerplay run rate of all teams this season (10.94) and the Titans the best bowling average {10.71) and the second-best economy rate {6.25} in the same phase.
While Punjab are ranked first for the fewest runs conceded this year after conceding an average of just 157.33 runs per match. Numbers can sometimes be deceiving. It should be noted that their death bowlers have actually only bowled six of their allotted 12 overs after the 16th. KKR were able to chase down their target inside 15 overs, while CSK were bowled out after 18 overs.
With at least three opposition wickets taken inside the powerplay overs in both their matches, it’s no surprise that the Gujarat Titans have yet to concede an innings total of over 160. Their trio of strike bowlers – Mohammad Shami, Lockie Ferguson and Rashid Khan, have combined for impressive figures of 11/164 from 24 overs.
The obvious area for improvement for the Titans from their two matches to date comes from the opening partnership of Matthew Wade and Shubman Gill. Across each of the Titans’ games this season, each individual has suffered an early failure with ball three of the innings having claimed a wicket on each occasion.
So far this season, the IPL has proved difficult to predict with a number of surprising results. If you want to put your money on the winner of this match, I would suggest going for a Punjab Kings’ win as I see them as being the more balanced side with bat and ball.
