Betting Preview
The red and gold of Royal Challengers Bangalore and the orange of Sunrisers Hyderabad meet in the 52nd match of the 2021 Indian Premier League in Abu Dhabi this afternoon. One team is refusing to move out of the bottom of the standings while the other is trying to earn a playoff spot.
Bangalore have already qualified, but are in top-two contention. They need to win both their remaining matches, starting with this one and hope the stars align in their favour. That said, with three wins in a row, Virat Kohli’s men have been showing the right form to make their own luck. Although they need to improve their performances in a chase, RCB are at home in setting targets with five of their last seven wins coming while batting first.
With three squad members in the top-12 batters after 50 matches and all three batting in their top four, RCB have no second thoughts about flaunting their batting muscles early. Even their bowling looks skewed with Bangalore leaning on Harshal Patel for wickets. He was their best bowler six times in 2021 including three of their last four matches.
Sunrisers are guaranteed to finish bottom as they look to pick up the pieces and play for pride. Their death bowling has been an influential reason for their success in the last few seasons but apart from Rashid Khan, their bowlers have not performed to their usual standard this season. They have already been eliminated after picking up just two wins in their first 12 matches this season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s current batting line-up is top-heavy, which means their most proficient and equipped players are batting at the top of the order. In the UAE leg of this tournament, Yuzvendra Chahal has been Royal Challengers’ best bowler, with 10 wickets in five matches. In the last three wins for Royal Challengers, Chahal has turned the match around with his guile. He was brought on in the seventh over against Mumbai Indians with the score at 56/0 and finished with 3 for 11. Against Punjab, he was brought on in the seventh over with the score at 49/0 and finished with 3 for 29. I can only see an RCB win in this match with Chahal, Glenn Maxwell and Virat Kohli leading the way once again.
Stat Attack
Five of the six matches at this venue have been won by the chasing side.
Glenn Maxwell top-scored for RCB in each of their last three matches.
The Royal Challengers have posted the highest opening partnership of the match in just one of their last five matches.
RCB have scored at least 48 in their last four powerplays. However, they have conceded at least 49 runs in their last six – without a single wicket in the most recent five.
A different batter top-scored for the Sunrisers in each of their last six matches.
The Sunrisers have won six of the eight matches against the Royal Challengers where they lost the toss.
Players To Watch
Yuzvendra Chahal has put aside the disappointment of being dropped from the Indian national side with eight wickets in his last three matches. The RCB leggie has six wickets against the Sunrisers in his three prior H2Hs played in the UAE. It was a buzzing debut for Sunrisers’ 21-year-old Umran Malik who turned eyes with the third ball of his first over, clocking 150 KMPH which is the fastest by an Indian in this IPL. The SRH speedster may end up being their lone bright spark to emerge from their UAE leg.
