Betting Preview
Despite being a league that boasts some of the best players in the world, no team in the IPL is immune from injuries or unavailability concerns. That has been the case for Rajasthan Royals, who have struggled for momentum in the UAE leg of the tournament in the absence of Jos Buttler, Andrew Tye and Jofra Archer. In the one match, they’ve won out of three, they were helped by a stellar final over from Kartik Tyagi and nervy batting from Punjab Kings.
After stealing an exciting last over win against the Punjab Kings on their return to the IPL, the Royals come into this match having lost their last two matches, the latest being a seven-wicket drubbing by wooden spoon holders Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. Kumar Sangakkara’s men are feeling the pain of losing their key English signings – Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes and have now joined three other franchises with eight points from a possible 20.
RCB finally got a much-needed win under their belt in the second phase of the competition since the move to the UAE. After earlier defeats against Punjab Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Challengers saw off the Mumbai Indians by 54 runs. Half-centuries from Virat Kohli (51) and Glenn Maxwell (56) helped them post 165/6 off their 20 overs, that was followed by fine spells from seamer Harshal Patel (4/17) and wrist spinner Yuzi Chahal (3/11) to help the ‘Men in Red’ claim two valuable points.
That win kept RCB right in contention in third place and snapped a three-match losing streak. Yet if they want to challenge for the title this season they’ll need to address their returns with the ball in the death overs (16-20), where they own the worst record of all teams for conceding runs (ave 49.40), claiming wickets (0.70) and giving away most runs (63.14). This is a tough one to call but Virat Kohli’s side will be full of confidence going into this match so I’m backing them to win this one.
Stat Attack
RCB average 5.8 sixes per match this season compared to Rajasthan’s average of 6.7.
Mohammad Siraj (RCB) has bowled 99 dot balls this edition, only three others have bowled more.
The Royals have won 20 of their 28 matches (73.81%) at neutral grounds where they have won the toss and batted second.
Chris Morris leads the Royals attack with 14 wickets at 21.71 apiece, one more than Rashid Khan having played a game less.
Glenn Maxwell needs 18 more runs to complete 7000 T20 runs.
Sanju Samson has been dismissed once every 38.1 balls this season, the second-highest balls per dismissal after KL Rahul’s 42.4.
AB de Villiers has taken Chris Morris for 86 runs in 44 balls in T20s at a strike rate of 195.4 and a boundary percentage of 72.1.
Players To Watch
Sanju Samson (RR) has scored 433 runs this season (as of match 40) and will no doubt be facing the probing seamers sent down from Purple cap owner (as of match 40) Harshal Patel (RCB), who has taken 23 wickets so far with best returns of 5/27.
