Betting Preview
Delhi Capitals take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 33 of the 2021 Indian Premier League this afternoon in Dubai. The Capitals have twelve points from eight games after losing only two matches. Sunrisers Hyderabad have won only once from seven fixtures. The Capitals finished the earlier stage of the IPL in top spot and still have all of their best performers ready to go again in the UAE.
It can’t get much worse for Sunrisers Hyderabad who only managed one victory in the tournament so far. They have world-class players and this second phase of the competition could prove to be a fresh start.
The Capitals have pinned much of their season on the big-name opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw, who together have combined for 54% of Delhi’s total runs off the bat. Dhawan is the Capitals’ leading run-scorer (380) as well as topping the IPL charts going into the postponement. Prithvi Shaw has been at his aggressive best, averaging 1.5 sixes in each game. With his recent selection in the Indian World Cup side, Ravichandran Ashwin will want to come back strong after averaging an unenviable 147 with the ball before the break.
Ricky Ponting’s side will miss Chris Woakes, who pulled out of the tournament for personal reasons. His replacement is Australia’s Ben Dwarshuis. In Australia’s Big Bash League, Dwarshuis has taken 85 wickets from 69 matches and will offer Delhi a quick and bouncy left-arm option. Delhi will likely go into this match as favourites; however, the fact that they have relied on two batsmen so heavily this season does expose a weakness.
The loss of top run-scorer Jonny Bairstow is the last thing Sunrisers needed. Bairstow hit 248 runs for the franchise and has been replaced by West Indies’ Sherfane Rutherford. David Warner was replaced as skipper by Kane Williamson earlier in the tournament.
Hyderabad’s strength, however, is its bowling, especially that of Rashid Khan. Khan has been outstanding with an economy rate of 6.14 in 2021. The key for the Sunrisers to win is to have a more balanced bowling performance, as well as a stronger start with the ball – they have taken just three wickets in the powerplay overs in 2021. No bowler other than Khan has taken more than Khaleel Ahmed’s four wickets (avg 41.00) in 2021.
Stat Attack
Delhi have a 5-2 record this season when entering the game as favourites.
When winning the toss and batting second, the Capitals win 65.71% of matches.
Hyderabad have won five matches and only lost one against Delhi when winning the toss.
Five of the last six H2Hs have been won by the team to bat first.
Players To Watch
With Bairstow out of the Sunrisers team and with 1,747 runs at over 40 in his IPL career, Kane Williamson will need to stand up for the Sunrisers and lead from the front. For the opposition, Shikhar Dhawan is averaging 54 as well as striking a well compiled 69* prior to the break. However, he has recorded just one half-century and a total of two sixes against Hyderabad from seven innings.
