With India managing to win 2-1 in the ODI series against South Africa, there are some of the talking points we picked from all three matches.
5: Sanju Samson Finally Delivers
Since Sanju Samson made his India ODI in 2021 against Sri Lanka, his nation has gone on to play a total of 60 matches in the format. In those, Samson has only been involved in 16 matches. At the age of 29, he is supposed to be at the peak of his powers. In the second match, he scored 13 runs at St George stadium – then he wasn’t expected to start in the final ODI. In the end, he delivered the much-needed century so his side to become victorious in the end.
4: Low Scoreline Throughout The Series
Throughout the series, all three matches didn’t have a 300 scoreline. The only match that had a big score was the decider with India scoring 296 after being asked to bat first. It was quite strange with both teams having the depth in the batting department. It is quite difficult to understand the reason behind this if either is the pitch conditions. Bowling having a great day in the office? Or the combination of the two.
3: South Africa’s New Era Started Off A Bad Start
With South Africa having bowed out in the World Cup semi-finals in India, so much was expected for them to move past the disappointment. Now the new players are given the chance at the expense of experienced players like Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. Then they were expected to shine in order to try and get the chance in the squad. But they failed to impress that much so the new Era of the young team started off the bad start. Even with the series loss though, Protea’s young squad will take this as the learning curve.
2: Tony DE Zorzi Took The Opportunity
Tony DE Zorzi was called up with the Proteas opted to rest some of the crucial stars for this ODI series. The 26-year-old batsman proved to be instrumental in all three matches. In fact, he was unlucky in the third match to score a century. He was tripped with LBW with 81. With Proteas already lost Quinton DE Kock who has announced the retirement in the 50-over format, then DE Zorzi will be the future going forward.
1: India On The Role
Since India arrived in South Africa at the start of December, they seem to mean the business. Firstly, they steamrolled the opponents in the T20 series then now ODI series they topped the Southern African side. It is so unfamiliar that India comes to the country and manages to be this good in all formats. It is so shocking that they have managed to win in a different environment with the hosts failing to have the answers. This result will give Indians a morale boost that they can match any opponents across the world.
