SUNDOWNS’ CAF HOPES HANGING ON A KNIFE-EDGE

As the CAF Champions League edges closer to the conclusion of the group stages, Mamelodi Sundowns and Horoya face off in a do or die encounter tonight in Pretoria.

A win or draw for Horoya will see them progress to the quarter-finals while the South African giants Sundowns know that only a win will do to see them sneak into the knockout rounds alongside the likes of defending champions Wydad Casablanca, TP Mazembe and Al Ahly.

The first time the teams met Percy Tau and Kharma Billat were on the scoresheet in a 2-all away draw. Two players who have subsequently left the club for better things *cue angry Sundowns fans*..

So the question is: who will take the situation by the balls? There will be an enormous amount of pressure on the shoulders of Gaston Sirino and Jeremy Brockie as they aim to prove to the fans they can replicate the success of their predecessors.

Guinean champions Horoya will not be pushovers having lost only once in their last 10 matches in all competitions.

Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, believes his side has the firepower upfront and mentality to seal the deal against the men from Guinea, but their failure to hit the back of the net in their last three matches points to a misfiring strike force. Something that needs to be corrected this evening.

We’ve crunched the numbers and come up with some interesting stats ahead of the clash. You can view all our stats – updated daily – on The Crunch

Sundown’s home ground advantage and CAF Champions League pedigree sees them as firm favourites to win the game, but the visitors will be tough to break down knowing a draw will be good enough for them to progress.

SUNDOWNS 0.70 VS HOROYA 4.00
